Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the damage due to foreign matter in a gas flow and to obtain the durability over a long period of time in a gas flow passage of an internal combustion engine or the like by providing a flow direction changing means for directing the flow direction of a gas flow toward the outer periphery direction of the flow passage and providing a foreign matter catching means having an opening in the upstream direction of the gas flow.
SOLUTION: In a gas flow passage 1 through which solid such as metallic pieces and liquid such as water may be passed as foreign matter, a catalyst carrier of honeycomb structure of an exhaust gas purifier is installed in the gas flow passage 1 as a structural body 3 by using a supporting material 2. A taper grid 5 consisting of plural plates having a taper directed toward the outer periphery direction from the center as a flow direction changing means for directing the flow direction of the gas flow 4 toward the wall surface of the flow passage. On the downstream side of the taper grid 5 and on the upstream side of the structural body 3, a pocket-like receiving tray 6 having an opening 6a in the upstream direction of the gas flow 4 as a foreign matter catching means is provided so that a double-pipe structure may be constituted of it and the wall surface of the gas flow passage 1 over the whole circumference of the inner wall of the gas flow passage 1.
