Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce a TiC coated high electrically conductive carbon material having high electric conductivity and wear resistance.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture of powdery TiO2 with powdery inorg. reducing material is heated at 1,800-2,250°C in an inert atmosphere to generate gaseous TiO and this TiO is brought into contact with a carbonaceous base material and allowed to react with the carbon of the base material to form a TiC coating film having 10-1,000μΩcm thickness on the surface of the base material. Powdery carbonaceous material powdery, metallic Ti or powdery TiH2 is used as the powdery inorg. reducing material.
