To provide a gas insulated cable having excellent dielectric characteristics and a method to fabricate such cables.

A gas insulated cable 1 is equipped with a circular pipe 2 made of insulative material filled with an insulating gas, a current conductor 3 introduced into a metal sealing part 5 filled with the insulating gas through an opening in a housing, an assembly flange 7 made of an insulative material coupled with a flange 11 on the metal sealing part 5 gas-tightly, and a terminating piece 6 having an arc checking part 12 which is symmetrical rotationally, wherein the arc checking part 12 is passed onto the outer surface of the current conductor 3 and has an electric shield 13 placed on the same outer surface. In fabricating this gas-insulated cable, the above-mentioned circular pipe 2 is formed by extrusion and fitted with covering, and the covering layer 4 is removed from at least one of the ends of the pipe 2, and the arc checking part 12 is welded to that end part of circular pipe 2 having no covering, and covering materia is attached to the welded joint 16.
