PURPOSE: To obtain a gas lamp mantle having an elastic and soft structure and excellent in durability by forming an intermediate fiber between a ceramic whisker and a ceramic sintered body with Al2O3 and SiO2, and manufacturing the mantle with the fibers.

CONSTITUTION: A molten object of Al2O3 and SiO2 is manufactured, it is drawn through a nozzle and finely extended, and it is further finely extended in a heating furnace at 1200°C or above to obtain an intermediate fiber between a ceramic whisker and a ceramic sintered body. When the molten object of Al2O3 and SiO2 is made of Al2O3 80% and SiO2 20%, its melting point is as low as 1900°C, and the intermediate fiber is reasonable and optimum for an action. The fibers are twisted into a thread, and a plain-weaved meshy structure is woven or braided with the fibers. The elastic and soft structure having high shock resistance and excellent durability is obtained.
