Abstract:

PURPOSE: To efficiently obtain a hydroxylic compound, such as an alcohol, a diol, or the like, by hydrogenating an unsaturated organic compound, such as an ester, a diester, a lactone, or the like, by a specific process.

CONSTITUTION: An unsaturated organic compound, such as an ester, a diester, a lactone, or the like, is supplied to a hydrogenation zone containing a granular hydrogenation catalyst. The reaction product stream containing a hydroxylic compound is recovered, and a hydrogen-containing gas stream is supplied to a packing layer of the hydrogenation catalyst for reactivation. Then, a gas phase supply stream containing a hydrogen-containing gas and the unsaturated organic compound is supplied to the other hydrogenation zone, and the reaction product stream containing the hydroxylic compound is recovered.
