This gas sensor A is provided with the first housing 5, the second housing 6 for covering the first housing 5, an intermediate chamber 7 formed between the first housing 5 and the second housing 6, the first air hole 8 provided in the first housing 5, the second air hole 9, a gas detecting element 1 provided inside the first housing 5, an adsorption layer 3 provided in the second air hole 9 to adsorb gas other than detecting objective gas, and a check gas introducing hole 4 provided in the second housing 6 to inject the check gas from an outside of the second housing 6 into the intermediate chamber 7, separately from the second air hole 9. The check gas introducing hole 4 is switched between a gas flow allowing condition and a gas flow blocking condition.
