To provide a gas sensor having high durability against a poisoning substance and rapidly detecting degradation caused by a heat shock or the like.
This gas sensor is provided with a first and a second solid electrolytes 1a and 1b, a first to a fourth electrodes 2a-2d, a first and a second catalysts 3a and 3b, a first gas selective permeating body 5a, a heating means 4, a first and a second potential difference detecting means 6a and 6b, an arithmetic means 7, and a self-diagnostic means 8. Since detected gas comes in contact with the electrodes through the first selective permeating body 5a, a poisoning substance is eliminated even if it is contained in the detecting gas. The self-diagnostic means 8 diagnoses the gas sensor from the ratio of the first and second potential difference. This results in providing the gas sensor having excellent durability and reliability and detecting accurate carbon monoxide concentration.
