Abstract:

To provide a system and method for processing contaminated air in a TOBI area without reducing the swirling speed of the discharge air used to cool a turbine rotor.

A nozzle, generally called a tangential on-board injector (TOBI) (44), is provided near the turbine rotor (19). At least some of these passages have a discharge air inlet and a discharge air outlet to flow discharge air (D) from a compressor (12) to the turbine rotor (19). A contaminated air inlet and a contaminated air outlet are provided on at least one of passages that are usually unused and closed. The contaminated air (P) flowing through a passage in the TOBI (44) is swirled, mixed with a swirled discharge air, and minimizes the reduction of speed of the discharged air (D) to be used to cool the turbine rotor (19).
