To provide a gasification apparatus for biomass in which the concentration of gaseous hydrogen in a produced gas is increased even if a compact gasification furnace is used.

In the gasification apparatus for the biomass which is provided with a hopper 11 for supplying the biomass 1, a screw feeder 11a, a supply nozzle 13, or the like, for supplying a gasifying agent containing oxygen 3 and steam 2, a gasification furnace 12 for gasifying the biomass 1 by the reaction of the biomass with the gasifying agent inside and a cooling tower 16 connected to the gasification furnace 12 and for cooling the produced gas 4 from the gasification furnace 12, the screw feeder 11a and the supply nozzle 13 are connected to the gasification furnace 12 to circulate the biomass 1 from the screw feeder 11 in the vertical direction in the gasification furnace 12 by the gasifying agent supplied from the supply nozzle 13.
