PURPOSE: To prevent separation and a slide of a facing material and a core under a high load condition.

CONSTITUTION: A gasket 20 has two outer facing material layers 28 positioned in mutually opposing side parts 30, 32 of a central metal shim 26. A perforated core 34 is arranged between the facing material layers and the shim. A width of the shim can be changed so as to control the whole width of the gasket 20. The core 34 is fixed to the shim 26 by using a thermosetting adhesive 36, extends in the facing material layers, and has a tongue-shaped piece 48 for clinching the core and the facing material layers together. The use of the perforated core prevents blistering of the facing material layers during gasket manufacturing. The two perforated metal cores mutually separated by an adjustable width shim provide manufacturing advantages, minimize a facing material layer thickness, and can increase strength.
