Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide stable and lean stratified charge combustion in a wide range of an engine rotation speed and load and improve the fuel consumption and exhaust gas property in a gasoline direct injection engine whose cylinder head is provided with a fuel injection valve directly injecting gasoline to a combustion chamber and an ignition plug faced to the combustion chamber.
SOLUTION: A fuel injection valve 22 facing to an approximately center part of a ceiling face of a combustion chamber 15 is attached to a cylinder head 14 having an axis approximately in parallel to the axis of a piston 131. A cavity 21 which is arranged under the fuel injection valve 22 and an ignition plug 23 and provided in the crown of the piston 131 is so constituted that the side opposite to the fuel injection valve 22 is formed deeper than the side opposite to the ignition plug 23.
