An automatic ticket gate 1 comprises, in order from the entrance side to the far side of a ticket examination passage 12: a magnetic ticket slot 3A; an antenna 4A; a first passage detection sensor 9A; a human body communication pad 5A for human body communication with a human body communication medium 15; and a second passage detection sensor 9B. When medium information on a magnetic ticket inserted to the magnetic ticket slot 3A or an IC card communicated with the antenna 4A is received, a control unit 10 controls the human body communication pad 5A to be temporarily in a stop state and associates a passenger with the magnetic ticket or the IC card that the passenger has. When the first passage detection sensor 9A detects a passenger in a state where medium information is not received from a magnetic ticket or an IC card, the control unit 10 stops the acquisition of medium information from a magnetic ticket or an IC card, communicates with the human body communication medium to acquire medium information, and then associates the passenger with the human body communication medium that the passenger has.
