PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gate type tension applying device, a yarn winder, a tension member and a tension applying method, which can effectively prevent the fuzz of yarns.SOLUTION: A gate type tension applying device comprises: a first gate body 30 having a plurality of first tension members 32 juxtaposed; and a second gate body 40 arranged on the side opposed to the first gate body 30 across the running passage of a yarn Y and made movable in directions to and from the first gate body, and having a plurality of second tension members 42 juxtaposed. At least one of the first tension member 32 and the second tension member 42 has a guide part 35 formed with a groove part 36 for regulating the position of the running yarn Y.
