Abstract:
PURPOSE: To enable the gland packing of a gate valve to be simply replaced even during passage of service water.
CONSTITUTION: Water sealing gland packing 4 is inserted into an interval between the outer circumference of a through part of a valve stem in a gate valve and the inner circumference of a gland box 11, and leakage packing 8 is attached to a spot in contact with an inner circumferential surface of a neck housing 10 in an outer circumferential surface notched spot at the lower part, while V packing 5 is interposed in a space in contact with a lower outer circumferential surface in the valve stem 3 and the neck housing at the outside and also contact with a top face of a neck bearing 9 at the lower part of the gland box. The valve stem and the gland box are constituted slidably free of vertical motion along the inner circumferential surface of the gland housing, and usually pressure in a valve box is sealed up by the gland packing, but in the case where this gland packing is replaced, the gland box is depressed and a lip of the V packing is stuck to the inner circumferential surface of the neck housing, thereby sealing up pressure in the valve box.
