To provide a gear forming machine capable of arbitrarily setting a shape of a gear tooth of a gear wheel to be manufactured or a gear wheel to be machined more accurately as desired and manufacturing the gear wheel while realizing a high quality of the gear and satisfactory productivity.

The gear forming machine is provided with a rotatable machine table driven by a motor 16 and a thrust spindle provided with a fixed tool and manufactures the gear wheel. The thrust spindle is displaceable by a predetermined stroke with a rotation movement overlapped with it. Thereby, the stroke position can be detected by a first measurement device 30 disposed in a stroke device 18 and the overlapped rotation movement of the thrust spindle can be produced by a direct connection rotation driving device 42. A second measurement device 46 for detecting a deviation of the thrust spindle from a predetermined path is provided at an area of the thrust spindle.
