PURPOSE: To provide a gear type universal joint for reducing the down-time of a line through the supply of lubricating oil and the exchange of a sealing ring.

CONSTITUTION: Supplied oil quantity detecting holes 3a and 3b are formed so as to be over the axis center in the case when a gear type universal joint stops revolution, and so that the space on the axis center side from the lubricating oil level during the revolution in a spindle side oil chamber 9 becomes positive in case of the max. contraction of the instataneous oil chamber in the max. formation of tilt angle. and the lubricating oil level in the max. expansion of the instantaneous oil chamber is formed on the axis center side from a connection gear part.
