PURPOSE: To obtain gelatin granules which are formed similarly to a thermo plastic resin by an extractor used in plastic industry or the similar by plasticizing commercial powder gelatine and/or commercial apparatus powder gelatine hydrolysate as a raw material in the extractor.
CONSTITUTION: This gelatin granular material is a solid gelatin body having the following properties. That is, moisture is 1-12 wt.%, grain size is 0.1-10 mm, bubble component is less than 1 vol.%, the test temperature is 110 C, the total load is 30 kg, and the ratio of length to diameter is 8 mm:2 mm, and the melt flow index(MFI) at the time of using a standard nozzle according to DIN (German standard) A53735 (p. 2) is 1 g/10 min. or more. This gelatin granular material is obtained by the following method. That is powder gelatin and/or pulverized gelatin hydrolysate as a starting material is supplied, with a plasticizer, a hardening agent, a filler and/or a coloring material in some case, into an extractor, the starting material is plasticized in the extractor by use of pressure, shearing force and high temperature, the above plasticized material is extracted, and an extract is cracked.
