Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods for increasing likelihood of effectiveness of ErbB antagonist cancer therapy.SOLUTION: The method comprises administering a cancer treating dose of an ErbB antagonist to a subject where ErbB gene of the tumor cells in a sample obtained from the subject has been proved amplifiable. Specifically, the method comprises administering a cancer treating dose of the ErbB antagonist to a subject, preferably with a chemotherapeutic agent, where the fluorescent in situ hybridization has indicated amplification of ErbB in the tumor cells of the subject. Preferably, ErbB is HER2 protein. Preferably, the subject cancer is breast cancer. A cancer treating method is characterized by that the subject has been found to have an antigen level corresponding to a 0 or 1+ score by immunohistochemistry on a formaldehyde-fixed tissue sample, the ErbB antagonist is an anti-ErbB antibody, ErbB is HER2 and the antibody is a recombinant human monoclonal antibody (rhuMAb)4D5.SELECTED DRAWING: None
