To provide a transcription regulation mechanism for a CD36/FAT gene and to provide a method for detecting diseases associated with the CD36/FAT gene.

A new promoter DNA on the further upstream side other than an already known promoter region of the CD36/FAT gene is provided. The promoter DNA can be used alone and even as a dual promoter together with the promoter on the downstream side. The transcription from the promoter on the upstream side of the dual promoter can be expressed and induced with a PPAR (peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor) activator. Furthermore, a mutation is present in the promoter region on the upstream side and the 12th exon of the CD36/FAT gene by an analysis of the genomic DNA of a patient suffering from CD36 deficiency.
