This gene transfer agent comprises a cationic branched type polymer becoming hydrophilic at a temperature lower than a prescribed temperature (T) which is lower than a living body temperature, and hydrophobic at a higher temperature than the prescribed temperature (T), and the cationic branched type polymer is characterized by using a compound having 3 N,N-disubstituted dithiocarbamylmethyl groups in the same molecule as an iniferter, performing the photo-irradiated living polymerization of N-isopropylacrylamide or its derivative to form its polymer block chains on the iniferter, and further performing the photo-irradiated living polymerization of a cationic monomer to form cationic polymer block chains.
