PURPOSE: To provide a generating apparatus in which the voltage to be supplied to a load such as a battery of an electric motor vehicle can be regulated without regulating the magnetic flux of the field pole of a generator.

CONSTITUTION: The generating apparatus comprises a generator 5 having terminals T1, T2, T3 and intermediate taps T1a, Ta2, Ta3 at armature windings 5a, 5b, 5c, a detector 4 for the number of revolutions of an engine, and a rectifier 6 having a rectifying circuit 2 connected to a battery 1 to rectify the voltages (L coil voltages) of the taps T1a, T1b, T1c and a rectifying circuit 3 connected to the battery 1 via a changeover switch S1 to rectify voltages (L+H coil voltage) of the terminals T1, T2, T3. Accordingly, when the number of the revolutions of the engine is increased to reach a predetermined value, the switch S1 is opened based on the detection signal of the detector 4, only the L coil voltage of the low voltage side is rectified by the circuit 2, and supplied to the battery 1.
