Abstract:

PURPOSE: To generate inexpensively and safely air ions in large amts. by wetting with water a through-pore type ceramic porous body having specified porosity obtained by binding heat-resistant ceramic particles having particle size in the specified range and sending air into the porous body.

CONSTITUTION: A through-pore type ceramic porous body, having 23W48% porosity and obtained by binding heat-resistant particles having 100W220 mesh particle size, is wetted with water, and then air is sent into the porous body to split a water film existing on the surface of the porous ceramic wall into fine water droplets and to ionize air. Since the ceramic porous body is an electrical insulator, the dissipation of air ions is not caused. Since the air ions after generation are remarkably dissipated with elapsed time and passing distance, 104W105 particles/cm3/sec air ion concn. is necessary in the vicinity of the position where air ions are generated. Said concn. can be readily attained by the method of this invention.
