Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pharmaceutical composition which maintains the health of periodontal tissue because the maintenance of tissues supporting gingiva, gum, and teeth is important to prevent various influences, such as cerebrovascular disease and cardiac disease by toxins produced from oral bacteria, teeth has not only masticatory function of foods but various functions such as prevention of nutritional biases, disuse inhibition of cranial muscles, and the maintenance of brain activity by mastication.SOLUTION: The invention provides compositions for medicament application which contain as an active ingredient one or more kinds selected from astaxanthin, and/or fatty acid ester of astaxanthin, and maintain/prevent gingiva by inhibiting/preventing apoptosis of gingival cells.
