Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method and a manufacturing apparatus of a glass preform capable of reducing a probability that a furnace core tube is deformed and makes contact with the glass preform during sintering of the glass preform.SOLUTION: A manufacturing method of a glass preform 2 including a sintering step for inserting the glass preform 2 into a furnace core tube 11 constituted of quartz glass and sintering the glass preform 2, also has an enlarging step for enlarging the inner diameter of the furnace core tube 11 by pressurizing for a prescribed time an internal pressure of the furnace core tube 11 so as to become higher than an outer pressure of the furnace core tube 11 in the state where the furnace core tube 11 is heated at a prescribed temperature before executing the sintering step.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
