To provide a glass ceramic fiber whose surface is excellent in durability and which has a crystal phase of one or more titanium oxides selected from the group consisting of an anatase type, a rutile type and a brookite type or an inorganic titanium phosphate compound and to provide a photocatalytic functional member containing the glass ceramic fiber.
The glass ceramic fiber includes, in mol%, 15.0-95.0% TiO2 ingredient, 5.0-70.0% SiO2 and/or P2O5 ingredient and favorably 0.1-60% alkali metal oxide and/or alkaline earth metal oxide and has a crystal having photocatalytic characteristics. The glass ceramic fiber which does not form a photocatalytic functional layer by embrocation, coating or the like and where a material itself composing the fiber has the photocatalytic characteristics is utilized semipermanently without the anxiety of degradation by the peeling or the like of the functional layer.
