PURPOSE: To continuously manufacture a glass fiber having a polygonal cross section and no modified layer due to working on its surface by drawing molten glass from a circular nozzle at the bottom of a crucible to obtain a fiber having a circular cross section and passing this fiber through a pair of heated rollers which make a polygonal slit.
CONSTITUTION: Molten glass 1 in the crucible 2 is drawn through the circular nozzle 3 at the bottom of the crucible 2 to obtain a fiber 4 having a circular cross section. This fiber is passed through a pair of rollers heated at temp. higher than the softening temp. of the glass 1 to form a glass fiber 6 having a polygonal cross section. By using the obtd. polygonal glass fiber 6 as an adhesive glass for a magnetic head, generation of bubbles in the adhesive glass can be reduced.
