To provide a glass panel which suppresses the cost increase of the glass panel and lessens the possibility of damage in providing the glass panel with a getter and a method of manufacturing the same.
The glass panel which is arranged with a pair of sheet glass 1 and 2 having a clearance V, is joined and hermetically sealed with the peripheral edges by a sealing material for joining, is provided with a discharge hole 5 for discharging the gas in the clearance V and the getter 7, is provided with the discharge hole 5 at one sheet glass 1 of both the sheet glass 1 and 2 by having a getter housing space 6 and in which the getter 7 is housed in the getter housing space 6 and the discharge hole 5 is end-sealed and hermetically closed by a cover 8 and the method of manufacturing the glass panel comprising joining and hermetically sealing the peripheral edges of both the sheet glass 1 and 2 by the sealing material 4 for joining, then sucking and discharging the gas in the clearance V from the discharge hole 5 in the state of housing the getter 7 in the getter housing space 6, thereafter bonding the cover 8 to the one sheet glass 1 thereby end-sealing and hermitically closing the discharge hole 5.
