Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a glass strand product usable for molding an FRP product of high quality, by forming a treating agent film with an insoluble content in styrene contained in an unsaturated polyester resin of a specific % or above on glass fibers.
CONSTITUTION: A treating agent film consisting of a crosslinked unsaturated polyester resin and an epoxy resin as principal components with a content insoluble in styrene ≥30% is formed on glass filaments. Many treated glass filaments are then wound by a guide and dried to prepare a glass strand package (cake). The resultant glass strand product has excellent properties of reinforcing a sheet molding compound.
