To provide a glass welding method for producing a welded glass article having high reliability.
A part of a glass layer 3 is melted by irradiating the part of the glass layer 3 with a laser beam, and laser beam absorbing parts 8a-8d having a laser beam absorbency higher than the other part of the glass layer 3 are formed at four corners of the glass layer 3. The laser beam is irradiated along a planned welding area R by using the laser beam absorbing part 8a as a irradiation starting position to melt the glass layer 3 and weld a glass member 4 and a glass member 5. A stable area having stabilized melting of the glass layer 3 can be formed from immediate proximity to a starting point to start irradiation with the laser beam for welding. Consequently, excessive heating of the glass layer 3 for decreasing the unstable area becomes unnecessary to prevent cracking of the glass members 4, 5 and uniformize welded state.
