To provide a glow bolt or glow starter for fluorescent lamp which is nonradioactive and protects the environment.
The unique glow bolt includes a stem assembly 1 including a short lead wire 2, a bimetal sheet 3 spot-welded to the short lead wire and a long lead wire; an envelope 5 internally sealing the stem assembly 1; and a discharge gas 6 filled in the envelop 5 after evacuating it. The short lead wire 2 is coated with a cesium base compound 8, and a lantern ring 9 made of glass, ceramics or metal is disposed around the short lead wire 2. Starting in a perfectly dark state is performed by field emission by adapting metal cesium with low work factor, while the request of environmental protection is perfectly satisfied by replacing the radioactive material in the related art by the cesium base compound.
