To allow installation to many kinds of luminaires, to improve attaching-detaching operability and connecting certainty of a glow starter, to facilitate wiring work with an electric wire, and to facilitate installing work to the luminaires without changing the other constitution by arranging two installation surfaces of the glow starter.

This glow starter socket 1 is composed of a socket body 4 formed in an almost box shape out of an insulating resin material, and a pair of conductive plates 6 housed in a symmetrical position to the center of a socket 1 in this socket body 4. Base pin inserting holes 7 and 8 for inserting a pair of base pins 21 of the glow starter 20 are respectively formed by a pair on one surface (a front face) of the socket body 4 and the opposite side surface (a back face) to form installing parts 2 and 3. For example, the glow starter 20 is installed in the back face side installing part 3. An insulating cover 30 composed of a cover body 31 and a cover installing leg 32 is installed in the front face side installing part 2.
