Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a glycolate ester peracid useful for providing the effective bleaching of fabric at a wide range of washing temp., especially, at low temp.
CONSTITUTION: A peracid precursor represented by formula III (wherein L is a residue capable of being substd. with hydrogen peroxide in a peracid bleaching soln.) which provides a peracid represented by formula I (wherein R is a 1-20C straight chain or branched chain alkyl, alkoxyl-substd. alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, alkylaryl or substd aryl; and R' and R" are each H, 1-4C alkyl or aryl), pref. a compd. represented by formula II (wherein R is a 4-17C alkyl or aryl), for example, octanoyloxyperacetic acid or benzoyloxy peracid designated. The compd. represented by the formula III and a hydrogen peroxide source are combined to obtain a bleaching compsn. The peracid precursor represented by the formula III brings about effective bleaching at low temp. and provides the high yield of a peracid over a wide bleaching pH region and forms two kinds of different peracids at pH 10.5 or more. For example, peracids represented by formulae V-VII are formed from an octanoyl glycolate represented by formula IV.
