To detect the abnormality of a governor rope mechanically easily by fitting a detecting arm which moves integrally with a governor tensioner arm for applying tension to the governor rope of an elevator to the governor tensioner arm, and detecting displacement of the detecting arm with a detecting switch.

This abnormality detecting device for a governor rope 7 is constituted of a detecting arm 3 which is fitted to an arm 2 for bracing in a governor tensioner 1, and a detecting switch (limit switch) 4 which is fixed on a guide rail side and operates following displacement of the detecting arm 3. The top of the arm 2 is pin supported on an attaching plate 5 which is attached to the guide rail. The detecting arm 3 is interlocked with movement of the governor tensioner 1. The detecting switch 4 is operated only when the detecting arm 3 interlocks with the governor tensioner 1 and is displaced. An indicator is operated with movement of the detecting switch 4 to display an abnormality of a governor rope 7.
