PURPOSE: To obtain polyvinyl chloride (PVC) grafted with an olefin having improved physical properties easily and economically, by bringing the olefin into contact with PVC prepared by mixing an organoaluminum compound and a small amount of a halogenated hydrocarbon, and activating the PVC.
CONSTITUTION: (B) An organoaluminum compound of the formula (R is alkyl; X is halogen; m is 1, 1.5, 2 or 3), e.g. trimethylaluminum, and (C) 0W10 wt%, based on the component (A), halogenated hydrocarbon, preferably carbon tetrachloride, are added to activate (A) polyvinyl chloride (PVC), preferably in the form of powder, and (D) a gaseous or liquid olefinic monomer, preferably propylene, is brought into contact with (A) the activated PVC and grafted threron. The amount of the component (B) is preferably 0.02W0.2mol based on the component (A).
EFFECT: The graft PVC has improved tensile strength, impact strength, heat resistance and processability.
