PURPOSE: To automate the inspection of the grade of whole grains and to make said inspection impartial by taking out whole grains during the feed of whole grains to a packing apparatus along a feed path to inspect the same by a grade meter.

CONSTITUTION: Sample unhulled rice for self-inspection is hulled to be separated into whole grains and immature grains and both grains are separately fed to a packing apparatus 5 by the same feed paths 3, 4. A predetermined amount of whole grains are taken out during feed on the way of the feed paths 3, 4 by a whole grain taking-out means 6 and the grade of the whole grains taken out by the means 6 is inspected by a grade meter 15. The taking-out operation of the means 6 is performed in response to the predetermined packing command signal of the packing apparatus 5. As a result, the grade of whole grains can be automatically inspected and this inspection can be made impartial. Further, the control of the taking-out operation of the whole grains of the whole grain taking-out means can be easily realized in low equipment cost.
