To obtain granular detergent composition having high bulk density, containing a soap, a nonionic surfactant and a sulfurous acid salt in a specific ratio, having high bulk density and fluorescent agent content, each in a prescribed value, capable of sufficiently keeping appearance of powder and useful as a detergent composition for clothes.

This detergent composition contains (A) ≥1wt.% soap such as a straight-chain saturated fatty acid salt, (B) 1-30wt.% nonionic surfactant and (C) 1-10wt.% sulfurous acid salt such as sodium sulfite and has <0.1wt.% content of a fluorescent agent such as 4,4'-bis-4-anilino-6-morpholino-1,3,5- triazin-2-yl-aminostilbene-2,2'-disulfonic acid disodium salt and has ≥0.6g/ml bulk density.
