Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for improving a material quality of an eventual three-dimensional article by controlling distribution of powder.SOLUTION: The present invention relates to a method for forming a three-dimensional article through successive fusion of parts of at least one layer of a powder bed provided on a work table. The method comprises the steps of: providing at least first and second powder tanks 64, 74; providing a first type of powder having a first particle size distribution in the first powder tank 64; providing a second type of powder having a second particle size distribution in the second powder tank 74; providing a first sub-layer of the first type of powder on the work table; providing a second sub-layer of the second type of powder on top of the first layer of the first type of powder; and fusing the first and second sub-layers simultaneously with a high energy beam from a high energy beam source for forming a first cross section of the three-dimensional article.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2B
