PURPOSE: To reduce scattering loss when a granular slag softening agent is charged, to lower rapidly the melting temp. and viscosity of slag and to remove easily slag by suction by using silicon oxide and iron oxide as the principal components of the softening agent which is used when slag is removed.
CONSTITUTION: Silicon oxide powder is mixed with iron oxide powder in about 70/30W30/70 weight ratio of SiO2/Fe2O3. The mixture is granulated to about 2W15mm average grain size with a binder such as an NaOH soln., and the granules are dried by heating to obtain a granular slag softening agent. Silica sand, sodium silicate glass, copper slag or fly ash may be used as a starting material for silicon oxide, and copper slag, mill scale or fly ash may be used as a starting material for iron oxide.
