PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a grinding apparatus capable of switching surfaces of a workpiece to be ground, between an outer peripheral surface and an inner peripheral surface, without the need to retract a tailstock greatly.SOLUTION: One end of a workpiece 15 is supported by a headstock 20. At the other end of the workpiece 15, an opening hole 16 opens, the other end being supported by a tailstock 30. The tailstock 30 and a grindstone 36 for grinding an inner periphery, which grinds the opening hole 16, are mounted on a switching table 27, the tailstock and the grindstone being aligned with each other in a switching direction intersecting an axial direction of the workpiece 15. The switching table 27 can move between: a supporting position where the tailstock 30 faces the other end of the workpiece 15; and an inner periphery grinding position where the grindstone 36 for grinding an inner periphery faces the other end of the workpiece 15. The grinding apparatus includes tilting mechanisms 28, 33 which rotate the headstock 20 and the tailstock 30 respectively, thus tilting a reference axis of the workpiece 15 in a cutting direction so as to move the reference axis toward or away from grindstones 45, 46 for grinding an outer periphery.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
