PURPOSE: To obtain an object roll gap profile by grinding a high order function roll in an object roll profile by using a grinding wheel normally used.
CONSTITUTION: In a four stage or a six stage rolling machine, a work roll 1 of the same form with a profile of the function whose highest order term as to the distance in the roll axial direction is the third order or higher is provided point symmetrically to the center of the rolling machine, the upper and the lower work rolls are moved respectively in the axial direction, and the locus 7 of the width center of the grinding wheel is controlled to pass at the outer side from the roll object form 6 in consideration of the width of the grinding wheel, when a work roll 1 used to rolling to control the plate form and the plate crown of the rolling machine is ground by using a normal grinding wheel 2.
