PURPOSE: To produce a ground fabric for air bags having high mechanical strength, excellent gas impermeability, reduced shock to the human body on expansion and providing compact non-coated air bags.

CONSTITUTION: In the ground fabric for air bags, a mixed yarn of 100 to 400 total deniers and over 6.5g/d tensile strength is used where the yarn is composed of polyester filaments of more than 1.76 intrinsic viscosity(IV) and 0.03 to 2.0 denier filament fineness as the weft or the warp, and polyamide filaments of more than 2.8 relative viscosity measured in sulfuric acid and 0.03 to 2.0 denier fineness at a ratio of from 3:7 to 7:3.
