PURPOSE: To make address setting without returning to a machinery room by providing a means for discrinating a shaft number and a means, in which the controlled part at each board place calculates the address of its own unit, at the controlled part of each board place.

CONSTITUTION: The address mode of a common transmission line 11, mainly transmitting a common boarding place call, is transmitted to a unitary control part 2 with a group management and control part 1A by input from a console 7 connected to the group management and control part 1A of a master machine. Moreover a returning command for a cage 3 to the uppermost story is outputted to a unitary control part 2, and the cage 3 is made door-opened stand-by at the uppermost story. Then door-opening is continued until an address set mode and a test transmission mode are passed in the unitary control device 2. When the cage 3 is returned to the uppermost story, the line 11 is switched to an address mode with the control part 1A. A service man rides the cage 3 to an address-setting story, and the address 24 of the shaft of a cage position story is transmitted to the line 11 to calculate the address of a controller 5 of each story.
