To obtain the subject suppressant capable of effectively suppressing the growth of unwanted hair by including an extract from Echinacea angustifolia and Echineceae purpurea and/or Tropaeolum majus as an active ingredient.
This growth suppressant for unwanted hair is obtained by including an extract from (A) a root or the whole herb of Echinacea angustifolia and Echineceae purpurea and/or (B) a leaf of Tropaeolum majus as an active ingredient. Furthermore, a cosmetic contains the growth suppressant. In the cosmetic, the content of the ingredients A and/or B is preferably 0.001-10 wt.% expressed in terms of a dried substance. Various solvent extracts, diluted liquids thereof, their concentrates, a dried powder thereof, or the like, obtained by extracting a pulverized material of the plants with a solvent (e.g. water, ethanol or propylene glycol) at normal temperature or under heating by using an extracting tool such as a Soxhlet extractor are included in the extract.
