PURPOSE: To prevent the seizure of the guide shoes of a cross helical rolling mill and rolling material so as to permit the use of the shoes to the wear limit and to improve the working efficiency of the mill by constituting the shoes of the composite layer of which the underlying layer is constituted of an Fe-base alloy or Ni-base alloy and the front layer is constituted of a cast iron material on the inlet side of rotation of a rolling pipe and the detaching side of the rotation thereof.
CONSTITUTION: The front layer of the guide shoes 2 consists of the cast iron material which is different in quality from the rolling pipe material 5 and has a lubricating function. The graphite existing in the base acts as a lubricating agent on the rolling surface to prevent the seizure on the contact surface between the material 5 and the shoe 2. An ordinary cast iron, ductile cast iron and CV cast iron are used as the cast iron material. The underlying layer consists of the heat- and wear resistant alloy to make up the drawbacks of the cast iron material constituting the front layer. The material used is a cast steel or Ni-base alloy contg. Cr, Mo and Ni at a high ratio. The Cr and Mo forms a carbide by bonding with the C to provide the wear resistance. The Ni prevents the seizure and heat crack.
