To improve fire resistance, water resistance and sound insulation and to give a magnetic or electromagnetic shielding effect by covering both surfaces of a platelike body made of a gypsum with metal thin plates.
Both surfaces of a platelike body 2 are covered with metal thin plates 3, 3. The body 2 is made of a calcined gypsum similar to that of the body of a core material of the gypsum board. The board 1 is frequently used by cutting the board 1 at a building site by a cutting knife. In such a case, a thickness of the each plate 3 which can be cut by the knife is desirably about 30 to 100 μm. As the plate 3, a plated steel sheet of zinc or the like or a colored steel sheet is preferably used, but except the steel sheet, an aluminum plate, copper plate, stainless steel plate or the like may be sometimes used. A method for manufacturing the gypsum board comprises, for example, the steps of adding water or another to a calcined gypsum, kneading the mixture, casting the kneaded mixture between two metal thin plates, setting the mixture to a predetermined thickness by rollers, curing the mixture and then drying the mixture.
