PURPOSE: To obtain the subject stimulant useful for preventing and treating bronchial asthma, having excellent inhibitory action on bronchoconstriction based on stimulant action of histamine H3-receptor and high safety, comprising a specific sesquiterpene derivative as an active ingredient.
CONSTITUTION: Rhodococcus KSM-7,458 strain (FERM BP-3747) is cultured in a slant medium for three days at 30°C, brought into contact with a medium containing 0.5% α-cedrene and subjected to shaking culture at 30°C for four days. The prepared culture mixture is extracted with hexane and its hexane- soluble fraction is determined by gas chromatography to give a sesquiterpene derivative of the formula [R1 is OH or R2ON= (R2 is lower alkyl)] (e.g. sec- cderenol). Then this compound as an active ingredient is mixed with a carrier, binder, disintegrator, surfactant, lubricant, fluidity promoter, flavor, colorant, perfume, etc., to give the objective H3-receptor stimulant effective for preventing and treating bronchial asthma.
