PURPOSE: To provide a hair cosmetic imparting excellent luster and smooth feeling to hair and having excellent effect for straightening kinky hair.

CONSTITUTION: This hair cosmetic contains (A) 0.1-30wt.% of a compound material produced by mixing an amphoteric surfactant and/or a semi-polar surfactant with a higher fatty acid such as a compound of formula R3COOH (R3 is a straight or branched chain or OH-containing saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon group having an average C number of 7-25) and (B) 0.5-12wt.% of a polyvinyl pyrrolidone-vinyl acetate copolymer having a (polyvinyl pyrrolidone/vinyl acetate) copolymerization ratio of 7/3 to 3/7. The surfactant in the component A is preferably an amidodetaine-type compound of formula I (R1 is a 9-21C alkyl or an alkenyl; x is 2-4; y is 0-4), an amidosulfone betaine- type compound of formula II, a betaine-type compound of formula III (R2 is a 10-18C alkyl or an alkenyl), a sulfobetaine-type compound of formula IV, an imidazolinium-type amphoteric surfactant of formula V or a tert-amine oxide-type semi-polar surfactant of formula VI.
