To provide a hair dryer which can prevent hair from being damaged by an excessive heating, and in addition, can improve safety.
The hair dryer includes: a body 1 having a blow-out port for blowing out hot air, and at the same time, having a heater 4 for forming the hot air and an air blowing unit 3; and an infrared temperature sensor 9 provided on the body 1, and measuring the temperature of hair; and an infrared proximity sensor 10 provided on the body 1, and measuring a distance to hair. At least one of the air blowing unit 3 and the heater 4 is controlled by a control device 5 conforming to the temperature of hair which has been measured by the infrared temperature sensor 9 and the distance which has been measured by the infrared proximity sensor 10. Thus, the possibility that the temperature of the hot air applied to hair reaches a thermal damage temperature is extremely reduced.
