To obtain a hair dye composition capable of suppressing the staining of skin while keeping high dyeing power and having improved high-temperature stability.

A 1st agent of this hair dye composition contains an oxidation dye, an alkali agent, a surfactant and water. The 1st agent further contains (A) 2-10 wt.% ascorbic acids and (B) a polyethylene glycol. The 1st agent is mixed with a 2nd agent containing an oxidizing agent before use. The weight ratio of B/A is preferably 0.01-5. The 1st agent preferably contains (C) a nonionic surfactant having an HLB of ≤8 and (D) a nonionic surfactant having an HLB of ≥10 as the surfactants.
