PURPOSE: To obtain a safe hair dye, capable of readily dyeing and consisting of tannin and one or two or more of water-soluble zinc salt, copper, tin, magnesium and aluminum salts without damaging the skin and hair.

CONSTITUTION: The objective substance obtained by mixing a tannin which is geraniin tannin, tannic acid or catechin tannin with one or two or more of water-soluble zinc, copper, tin, magnesium and aluminum salts and polyhydric alcohols, ethanol, water, etc. Salts of L-cysteine or L-cystine or hairdressing resins, as necessary, are blended therewith. The hair dye can be prepared in the form of one-pack type in which the tannin is mixed with zinc, copper, tin, Mg, Al salts and two-pack type of the first solution containing the tannin and the second solution of au aqueous solution containing the water-soluble zinc, copper, tin, Mg and Al salts.
